Apparently Nintendo may be gearing up to release a console war KO, Wii HD. The creatively nicknamed "Wii 2.0" (still much better than when the Wii was code named Dolphin) has been rumored to be set for release around 2011 with HD, all according to the website What They Play.com.
The sources could be gathering this from an educated number guess seeing as Nintendo has just pumped the R&D (research and development) budget from $103 million to $307 million. Either way thats some pretty suspicious spending and there is no doubt something going on over at there. Nintendo was unable to supply any comments when asked about the recent fluctuation in spending. Apparently a revolutionary change to the number one selling gaming console is a little hush hush, who knew.
As far as the controls and overall console design goes, the sources seem to believe it wont change. This should be strictly a tech upgrade and cosmetically nothing would really be improved.
If Nintendo really did pull out the missing link in their almost indestructible chain mail, what wil Microsoft and PS3 do? Looks like we'll be waiting a could years either way.
